Compucare Ward is a web application, which works hand in hand with Compucare, designed to help nurses and clinicians deliver safer and more efficient inpatient and daycase care. The application supports the full workflow of recording observations, calculating NEWS2 scores, completing ward documentation and managing patient handovers. With automatic NEWS2 scoring, escalation prompts and instant access to patient information, Compucare Ward provides a streamlined digital alternative to the traditional paper booklet at the end of the bed.

Optimised for use on computers and all-size tablet devices, Compucare Ward enables nurses to update records directly at the bedside. It provides a more sustainable, paper‑saving solution that minimises unnecessary trips back to a workstation and ensures information is captured instantly and accurately.

Why Compucare Clinician?

Compucare Ward removes the need for manual calculations and paperwork by automating NEWS2 scoring and patient reminders. Nurses can scan a wristband to immediately open the correct patient record, helping them work quickly and confidently.
Automatic identification of patients who require escalation, real time reminders for upcoming observations and instant data synchronisation with Compucare to support fast clinical decision making and help prevent avoidable deterioration.
Compucare Ward is designed to fully digitise the inpatient booklet. Forms, assessments and signatures can be completed electronically, creating a consistent and fully audit trailed record.

Information entered in Compucare Ward appears instantly in Compucare, and vice-versa ensuring all users see the most up to date patient data.
Controlled access using Microsoft Entra and Compucare Authentication Services ensures that patient information always remains protected. Access is managed directly by the hospital, giving you full control over who is able to log in.

Compucare Ward allows nurses and clinicians to record observations, view patient information, complete forms, and manage handovers while working across the ward. Designed specifically for tablet use, the system is optimised for iPad Mini–sized devices, enabling real time documentation at the bedside while maintaining a professional clinical presence. This approach improves accuracy, reduces administrative delays, and enables on-the-move care, directly from the patients’ bedside.

The system includes built in NEWS2 scoring prompts and scheduled observations with clear escalation routes and clinical guidance. If a patient meets escalation criteria, alerts cannot be dismissed until the observation is completed correctly, the frequency of observations is increased, or the responsible clinician is contacted. This ensures that potential deterioration is acted on promptly and never overlooked.

Security you can trust

  • Access and authentication
    Authorised access is controlled through Microsoft Entra ID, with permissions managed directly via Compucare Authentication Services to ensure the right people have the right level of access. Multi‑factor authentication can be enabled for an additional layer of protection, and only verified users are able to view clinical data.

  • Data Protection
    All data in transit is encrypted using TLS 1.2, with secure routing handled through Azure Front Door for enhanced protection. Controlled API access is managed via Azure API Management, and all patient data is stored within Compucare 8 with full auditing to support traceability and compliance.

  • Hosting & Resilience
    The solution is hosted using Azure Static Web Apps, providing global distribution for performance and stability. APIs are geo‑replicated and load‑balanced across UK South and UK West regions, ensuring high availability. Continuous monitoring via Application Insights further strengthens resilience and system reliability.

  • Testing and assurance
    Annual CREST‑approved penetration testing is carried out alongside regular vulnerability assessments. Additional testing is performed on all new features prior to release, and full reports are available upon request for complete transparency and assurance.
